Are You Up For A Winter Caravan Holiday?

Are You Up For A Winter Caravan Holiday?

If the answer to that question is yes, then you’re not alone. Caravan Times recently reported that the Caravan and Motorhome Club has seen a seven per cent increase in autumn and winter bookings among its members this year, compared to 2018.

This is after also seeing bookings increase last year, so it seems that it’s a definite trend rather than a one-off because of Brexit.

The Caravan and Motorhome Club wanted to find out why more people are choosing to brave potentially cold weather for a carvanning break in the autumn and winter, so it set up some polls on social media.

One of the top reasons was to enjoy the autumn colours, with 26 per cent of respondents stating that this is one of the things that appeals to them about getting away at this time of the year.

Another popular reason was to enjoy long walks on crisp, bright days (22 per cent). But one of the biggest drivers was to visit attractions without the crowds. Over one-third (35 per cent) of those surveyed said that this was one of their main reasons for taking caravan holidays out of season.

Others said that they simply like the cosy feeling they have in their caravan or motorhome, which is another great reason to hit the road this year and explore some other parts of the UK.

If you think that you might have to spend a bit more time in your caravan than out at this time of the year, make sure you’ve got caravan satellite systems set up so that you can snuggle up with a movie or TV series if the weather turns on you.

Director of marketing for the Caravan and Motorhome Club Harvey Alexander commented: “It’s great to hear how our members all get their way - whether that be curling up with a good book and a nice cuppa in a cosy motorhome or braving the chill and camping in a national park so they can spend their days walking and cycling.”

And for those of you who are still planning an autumn or winter getaway in your caravan, there’s some good news. Out and About Live revealed that a growing number of camping and caravanning sites are staying open into the winter months.

The Camping and Caravanning Club has revealed that ten more of its sites will stay open until early January, while a further 16 will now be open all year round.

Some of these sites will be hosting their own festive events to help caravanners get into the holiday spirit. Others are located close to some of the UK’s top Christmas markets, so arranging a stay in your motorhome is a great way to visit the likes of Oxford, Salisbury or Canterbury for some Christmas shopping and general merriment.

Of course, there are also places to stay in areas of natural beauty, allowing you to get out and about and enjoy the best weather the season has to offer. Just make sure you’re prepared with all the accessories you need to keep you cosy, whether you’re out exploring or tucked up in
