Consider Yorkshire For Your Next Staycation

Staycations are becoming increasingly popular among British holidaymakers who want to enjoy a break but do not want the hassle of jetting abroad. Those who have their sat nav for caravans ready for their next road trip might want to tap in a Yorkshire postcode, as this county offers lots to see and do for eager tourists.

Indeed, of the 7.3 million Brits who planned an overnight trip in the UK during 2018’s August Bank Holiday weekend, many headed to the north-eastern region according to VisitEngland.

The survey found 5.1 million of these vacations were to Yorkshire and The Humber last year, an increase of one per cent on 2017’s figures. The most popular destination in the county was Scarborough, beaten nationally only by London.

VisitEngland’s director Patricia Yates told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “There is so much variety and choice when choosing a holiday in the UK, from our seaside towns and vibrant cities to our outstanding attractions and picture-perfect countryside. And we have been hearing from many destinations across the country that they are looking ahead to a strong summer season.”

Those wanting a coastal break could head to Whitby, with its Abbey famed for being the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

York is also a popular destination, offering tourists a plethora of historic and cultural sites, from The York Dungeon to its beautiful Minster.

City-slickers wanting to enjoy an urban holiday could take in the sights and sounds of Leeds, Sheffield or Bradford, which each has its own character and attractions to enjoy.

VisitEngland estimated the number of Brits enjoying a staycation over 2019’s August Bank Holiday weekend would have increased to 8.6 million, so a lot more people could have enjoyed the wonders of Yorkshire even compared with last year’s high figure.
